BD Barcelona modern furniture for the home
The Bocaccio Design of early 1970s Barcelona emerged from the minds of Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici, Lluís Clotet, Mireia Riera, and Óscar Tusquets as a vehicle for producing all those pieces of modern furniture, objects, and accessories that were not found in stores. It could have been just an arrogant purpose, but it was going to become a unique experience offering an unusual reading of design in our country: a new sensitivity, a different perception for everyday objects.
What in 1972 was the almost insolent rebellion of some dissatisfied young architects soon became a productive philosophy with a vocation to transgress limits. Including commercial ones.
Modern and contemporary creations have coexisted in the BD Barcelona catalog with those of the great and admired classical masters, exposing their weaknesses and preferences… Álvaro Siza Viera, Ettore Sottsass, Javier Mariscal, Alessandro Mendini, Miguel Milá, or Pete Sans have shared space with Antonio Gaudí, Salvador Dalí, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Giuseppe Terragni, Josef Hoffmann, or Adolf Loos, in the magnificent headquarters of BD, a modernist building designed by Domènech i Montaner, the Casa Thomas (1895), which deserved the National Restoration Award in 1979.
BD doesn’t manufacture; BD edits. The brand seeks for each piece the best process, the most appropriate to its essence, so that each and every one of them is the result of meticulousness and care of artisan techniques or the most intelligent technological features.
BD Barcelona renews its commitment to coexistence with furniture and objects, using them as everyday tools, but also as an expression of a pleasant relationship with their shapes, textures, and evocations.
Gunni & Trentino is the official distributor of BD Barcelona.
